Dear Family, Friends, and Strangers
We want to thank you for your love, support, and concern. Most of all we want to thank you all for the prayers you have said on our behalf for the last few months. We need those prayers again, now more than ever.
After I heard the news about Mason on Wednesday, I had a sleepless night full of questioning. Why us? We've had much more than our fair share of "this has never happened before's." I felt quite angry that God was not protecting my boys, but allowing the unthinkable to happen.
As I was reading my scriptures, I came across this:
1 Nephi 7:12 Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him? Wherefore let us be faithful to him.
In the bible dictionary, it gives a good explanation of prayer:
Prayer is the act by which the will of the father and the will of the child are brought into correspondence with each other. The object of prayer is not to change the will of God but to secure for ourselves and for others, blessings that God is already willing to grant but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings.
Sometimes the Lord doesn't answer our prayers the way we wish. But it doesn't mean we should stop praying or cease to have faith.
I know that God can perform miracles. I know that faith can move mountains. I am scared, and I am being carried by the prayers said on our behalf. It may be a lot to ask, but I am asking all of you who can, to please exercise your faith and pray for Mason.
Pray that his body will be strong as he fights this cancer.
Pray for miracles in his response to treatment.
Pray for the doctors to be guided to the best treatment methods.
Pray for Richard and me to be confident in our decisions we make in his behalf.
Pray for Richard and me to have the strength to accomplish all that we need to.
Pray for our extended families who love these boys dearly and struggle seeing them suffer.

We think about you and your family everyday. My sweet 7 & 4 year old girls don't let a prayer go by in our home that doesn't include "the triplets". Yes, strangers are praying for you. ♡ Rachelle & family (Elise Hakes' sister)
