Today Mason had his scheduled biopsy. The Dr.'s wanted to remove a small amount of the tissue to get DNA so they could know how best to fight this tumorous growth.
Dr. Gallie went in to remove the tissue, and she said as soon as she touched the tumor, it didn't feel like a retinoblastoma tumor. Instead, it was fibrous, and solid. She took this sample and examined it under a microscope. From what she could see, she was puzzled.
She came back to the waiting room and frankly told those waiting,
"I don't know what this is. I've never seen anything like it."
The confirmation that it isn't a standard retinoblastoma tumor is outstanding.
But, the confirmation that it is another "unknown" is disconcerting.
I think we all had a mix of emotions.
Part of our hearts want to proclaim that this is a miracle.
The miracle we have been praying for.
And, the other part of our hearts say, don't get your hopes up.
It's uncharted territory.
Leslie and Richard have been through so many waves of ups and downs and unknowns. They are both level headed people, making sound decisions. I think having so many surges of emotions can cause you to sometimes put up an emotional barrier. Not in a bad way, just so you can make it through, and cope, and deal with what needs to be done.
Tonight as Leslie was rocking Mason she said she started singing a song we sing in our church.
It's called "A Child's Prayer".
Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you hear and answer every child's prayer?
Some say that Heaven is far away,
But I feel it close around me as I pray.
Pray, He is there.
Speak, He is listening.
You are his child.
His love now surrounds you.
He hears your prayers,
He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom,
the kingdom of Heaven.
As she rocked Mason and held him close, her heart overflowed with emotions. That emotional barrier came down and in that moment she was encompassed by the love of Heavenly Father. She felt what He'd been wanting her to feel for a while now. He, our Heavenly Father is hearing her prayers and the prayers of thousands - family and friends and strangers. She had confirmation that he will answer those prayers. Even though it is a very long road with Mason and dealing with whatever this is, they will make it through. A feeling that she should have hope.
So, although we won't know any more until pathology results come back on Monday, we are choosing to be hopefully optimistic. We are going to continue to pray for a miracle for Mason.
